In darkness is a Spanish film carried out by Pedro Almodovar in 1983.

Synopsis

The buddy of Yolanda, singer and doped, dies of an overdose. The police force research and it decides to hide in a convent of nuns. But the life of the nuns is not only made prayers and of love of the Lord. Dope, sexuality, plots, secrecies, wild tiger,… cotôient themselves there.

Around film

In addition to one violent one indictment anti-monk (Almodovar was raised by Franciscains and will keep some a terrible memory), the realizer, of which it is the third film, develops as always the topics that it are expensive to him (the women, drug, homosexuality,…). However, a new aspect of its work is revealed there: references to the cinema.

Later in its career, Almodovar will show that it is before a whole film enthusiast, by dispersing cinematographic quantities of references. In this film, the realizer had with the spirit work that Marlène Dietrich had made with Josef von Sternberg, in Blonde Venus where she “interprets a woman of interior which becomes singer, spy, then, who crosses the world and saw an infinite number of adventures.”
