In Tribe Called Quest
has Tribe Called Quest is a group of rap formed by 4 principal members originating in the district of the Queens to New York: Q-Tip, DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Phife Dawg and Jarobi White (which took part only in their first album).
They were made known while being the first group of Hip-hop to criticize the Gangsta rap and the turning machist which the rap took in general at that time. Their words were focused on abstract and social problems like the word nigger (negro), the rape and the consumer society. In terms of musical quality, ATCQ contributed to the development of the style “jazz-rap” with other groups like Gang Starr, Of the Drunk person or The Roots. They started with the album People' S Instinctive Travels and the Paths off Rhythm (1990) including/understanding impossible to circumvent “the Edge I Kick It”. In spite of the relative success obtained among the fans of the kind, they truly exploded with their following album, The Low End Theory (1991) and of the songs like “The Infamous Date Grater”, “Check the Rhime” or “Scenario”. This album is regarded as one of the best albums in the history of the hip-hop to the eyes of the specialists as well as fans. The albums Midnight Marauders (1993) followed, Beats, Rhymes and Life (1996), often underestimated wrongly, which explores the way opened by Mobb Deep the previous year with The Infamous (1995), and The Love Movement (1998).
Following this last album, the group burst. Q-Tip continued its career solo, participant in songs with other artists like the bass player Stanley Clarke or electro The Chemical Brothers groups it. Phife Dawg and Muhammad also continued their personal careers, Muhammad in particular founded the group of R&B Lucy Pearl, with Dawn Robinson, former member of the group In Vogue, inter alia.
