In Flames
Created in 1990, in the town of Gothenburg, in Sweden, In Flames is a melody group of Death which is regarded as a reference and one of the founders of the kind. The group to date sold approximately 1,3 million albums throughout the world.
The group left 8 albums, like 3 EP. Although it was already rather known in the medium of metal at the end of the years 1990, it is with the exit of their fifth album, Clayman, in 2000, that it was made known universally.
Biography
In Flames is a group of melody Death born in 1984 when three members of Ceremonial Oath, Jesper Strömblad, Johan Larsson and Glenn Ljungström, leave the group to only begin a musical project. They record a short demonstration, with Mikael Stanne, future member of the group Dark Tranquility, with the song, which was sent to several labels. The owner of Wrong Again Records thought that the group had future and concludes soon a contract with the group. From this contract was born the first album from In Flames, called Lunar Strain , which joins together voices " death" and a rather aggressive instrumental play, compound with acoustic sessions. The album was a success in the Swedish scene underground and accepted criticisms positive of the specialized press.
However, In Flames became known in the majority of the Europe thanks to the exit in 1994 of the EP Subterranean . It drew the attention of the label Nuclear Blast, which offered to them a contract for the European exit of their album. In 1995 the album The Jester Race with the arrival follows to the song of Anders Friden and to the battery of Björn Gelotte. The album poses the bases of the sound In Flames which will be then ended even more in 1997 on the album Whoracle , considered per many fans as their best album.
The year 1999 marks a decisive change for the group with the arrival of Daniel Svensson to the battery and Peter Iwers to low to form the line-up which since is that of the group. Björn Gelotte as for him passes from the battery to the guitar. The album Colony leaves this same year and continuous in this style characteristic of death melody metal. In 2000 the album Clayman leaves which marks a transfer in the career of the group. This one indeed moves away a little its roots and brings different keys to its music with in particular the appearance of Sample S and the refrains very hookers. In 2001 an album live Tokyo Showdown leaves.
Left in 2002, the album Reroute To Remain will bring a greater notoriety to them. Produced by Daniel Bergstrand, owner of Dug-Out Studio in Denmark, this album has a very modern sound which will reject the burning fans while bringing the new ones to the group. He enables him to carry out large rounds and to open inter alia for Metallica. This evolution towards modern sonorities and walls of guitars will continue on the album Soundtrack To Your Escape left into 2004 which also contains its batch of hits. In 2005, after having supported the group Judas Priest at the beginning of year at the time of their north-European round, the group belongs to the Ozzfest while playing on the principal scene, with Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath. In the same year, the group leaves a DVD entitled Used And Abused: In Live We Trust comprising 2 DVD (with 2 CD and a booklet of 48 pages in more in its limited edition). At the end of 2005, the group signs at the label Ferret Music, for the territory of North America.
After having sold more than one million specimens of its albums, the formation leaves in February 2006 the album Like Clarity which marks a return to the melodies of antan while keeping the modern sound of its two last productions. At the time of its first week of sale, it was classified first in the charts of Sweden and of Finland, found itself with the sixth position in Germany and with the fifty-sixth position in American Billboard (the album was sold with 24.000 specimens with the the United States in one week whereas Soundtrack To Your Escape had been sold with less than 10.000 specimens over the same period). The exit of this album coincides with the beginning of their world tour, which started in North America and which will have been followed of a European round with, like support, Sepultura. The group took part in Sounds off The Underground American during the summer, after having supplemented a second round at the head of poster in the United States. During the autumn, the group was the direct support of the European round " Unholy II" Alliance; at the sides of the head of poster Slayer and Children off Bodom, Lamb off God, Gojira and Thine Eyes Bleed. After this round, the group will make its fourth North-American round of the year, without Stromblad and Gelotte, the third at the head of poster, with like support group Italian of Lacuna Coil and the American group Seemless.
In January 2007, the group gained Swedish Grammys for the album Hard rock with Like Clarity. It is their third Grammys in three successive albums. They make also a service in Rockbjornen, with the return of Björn Gelotte and Jesper Strömblad to the guitar. Mid-February, they announced on their site the recording of three songs demonstration, in their own studio, with Gothenburg. They will make a round in the clubs of Norway and Sweden at the beginning of spring.
