Impéria (statue)

Impéria is a Statue located at the entry of the port of Constance in Germany, commemorating the Concile of Constancy which took place there between 1414 and 1418. Constancy was a long time imperial city.
The statue in Concrete 10  measurement; m top for a weight of 18 tons, and rests on a Piédestal which turns around its axis once all the three minutes. It was created by Peter Lenk and was set up in 1993.
Impéria shows a woman holding two small men sitting on its hands. The two men represent the Pape Martin V and the Empereur Sigismond. Martin V was elected during the Council while Sigismond represents the secular power. Both are naked except the symbols of their power.
The woman represents an Italian courtesan born in 1485 with Ferrare. Although the Impéria history never visited Constance, it is related to the council which took place well before its birth by a news of Honore de Balzac, " Beautiful Impéria". The history is a hard Satire morals of the catholic Clergé , where Impéria allures cardinal and princes and has the capacity on them.
