Imagination! is the name of a house of park EPCOT of Walt Disney World Resort. It gathers several attractions. It was named Pavillon Journey Into Imagination of 1983 to 1995. It is a house dedicated to the imagination of the man and since 1995 it is even sometimes called Imagination Institute because of attraction Chérie, I narrowed the public which uses this name. The house is sponsored since its opening by the company Kodak.

The house is composed of two buildings on a surface on the ground of 1.600 m ². Principal attraction is the voyage in the imaginary one baptized Journey Into Imagination whose entry is done by both Pyramide S of glasses. (The top of the pyramids is bevelled, it are thus not strictly speaking of true S pyramids). Above attraction, a space accommodates an exposure on photography.

Just on the left of the pyramids the house dedicated to the cinematographic techniques is: a film using the “  last innovations  ” is projected with the public. It is this house which currently accommodates attraction Chérie, I narrowed the public .

History

The history of the house begins with the end of the year 1982 with a room from Cinéma in relief, the Magic Eye Theater proposing the film Magic Journeys . During one year the room was alone in the house but an attraction was in the course of construction in the other wing of the bâtiment.
Attraction Journey Into Imagination opened its doors at the end of 1983, on this occasion the house was famous Journey Into Imagination Pavilion .
On the floor under the pyramids, an exposure on named photography ImageWorks opened at the same time. In 1986, the film Magic Journeys was transferred in the Magic Kingdom and was replaced by Captain EO in the Magic Eye Theater .

In 1995, the film Captain EO was in its turn replaced by Honey, I Shrunk the Audience ( Chérie, I narrowed the public ). Magic Eye Theater was renamed Imagination Institute Theater .

Attraction Journey Into Imagination saw disappearing in 1999, the character of Dreamfinder, a human companion of Figment , a purple dragon with the profit of a restoration (see below). But the protest campaign of the visitors made restore the presence of the presonnage in 2002.

A project of house on the cinema was to accompany or supplement the house on imagination. The project developed so much that a complete park was built: Disney-MGM Studios

Attractions

ImageWorks

ImageWorks opened in 1983 like a after-spectacle with attraction Journey Into Imagination. It was an exposure located on the floor, under the pyramids of glass. It consisted of examples of modifications of images. A section proposed visual effects and interactive console. Attraction closed in 1999 with the profit of What If Labs .

What Yew Labs

What Yew Labs as ImageWorks is an exposure on the image in after-spectacle of Journey Into Imagination since the restoration of 1999. It is directed than its elder towards the final improvement of the images and surprising the creation which results from this. It is located at the ground floor of the house, and leaves the espac under the pyramids unoccupied.

The version for the Celebration of the Millenium

In 1997, the company Fujifilm, rival of Kodak, proposed with the Walt Disney Company an offer to renovate attraction Journey into Imagination and to take again the partnership contract of Kodak. Attraction would have been transformed into a version with feeling but is based on imagination.

The decennial contract of Kodak precisely expired and Disney absolutely wanted a sponsor for this house headlight with the close relation of the Millennium Celebration , the ceremony of the thousand-year-old second. Kodak wanted however to preserve partenarait it which could have started its contract of photographic developments.
Kodak then proposed a new more scientific but shorter version and with less expensive special effects for Journey Into Imagination . It should be known that the latter is one of attractions most expensive in maintenance of park EPCOT because of these many special effects, much more than Spaceship Earth, it also a Dark wrinkles. But attraction is very popular near the public and Disney wanted to preserve one of its successes. Disney accepted the new Kodak concept nevertheless with the end of the year 1997.

In 1998, attraction Journey Into Imagination closed for a restoration. On this occasion, the ImageWorks exposure was closed and the building repaint with colors navy blue instead of blue and white. The symbol of origin out of glass was replaced by a version out of wooden and metal. The fountain with jets hopping (as in Alice' S Curious Labyrinth) had to be reduced to allow the addition of a new shop, just at the exit of attraction. It makes dual employment with that located at the entry D cinema in relief. But Disney accepted that new shop, located better and seems it more promising in the future (and profitable). The space occupied by ImageWorks under the pyramids became unutilised because of the installation of a new space at the ground floor.

Attraction reopened in 1999, but the persnnages of Dreamfinder and Figment had indeed disappeared except a short appearance at the end of attraction. ImageWorks as for it was centred on visual imagination, for many fans a publicity for the partenaire.
Attraction was boycotted by the fans simultaneously with a support campaign for the old version. The number of visitors fell drastiquement as well as consumption Kodak the film in the park. Under the pressure of the fans and Kodak, Disney closed attraction in October 2001 again to reopen it at the beginning of May 2002, in a more acceptable version with the wish of the public.
