Ilya Ehrenbourg
Ilya Grigorievitch Ehrenbourg , born on January 27th 1891 with Kiev (Ukraine) and deceased on August 31st 1967 with Moscow (the USSR), is a writer, poet, journalist and Russian public personality.
Biography
As of its youth, Ehrenbourg seeks to forge an identity between its Jewish origins , its Russian roots and its Europeanism, cultivated during its residence in Paris in 1908-1917 and 1921-1940. It takes part in the revolutionary movements of 1905.It takes part in the Spanish Civil war, then becomes correspondent war at the time of the second world war. It is as at that time as it leaves on the steps the Red Army , in the territories just released of the influence Nazi. There, in company of Vassili Grossman, it will collect testimonys of the massacres made by the Germans. Their report will be used with the Procès as Nuremberg in 1945-46. He was member of the direction of the World council of peace, and accepted for this reason the Prix Lénine international for peace in 1952.
He became knight of the Légion of honor in 1944.
He is buried with the Cimetière of Novodevitchi.
