Illite

The Illite of formula (K, H3O) (Al, Mg, Fe) 2 (If, Al) 4 O 10]) 2, (H2O)] is a mineral Argile ux resulting from the Bisiallitisation of the Feldspath orthoclase, reaction taking place at the time of the attack of the Eau under certain conditions of temperature and pressure:
Orthoclase + H2O → illite + Silica + ion potassium
or, more precisely: 5 KAlSi3O8 + 20:00 2O → 4 K+ 8 If (OH) 4 + Illite + 4 (OH-)
Data
- external Surface: 100 m ² per internal gram
- Surface: 20 m ² per gram
- are an entire surface of exchange of 120 m ² per gram (very reactive)
- 10 layers piled up form an elementary crystallite
- interfoliaceous space (between the layers) not easily usable by the plant because filled by connections K+
- isomorphic substitutions possible
Layer
The illite is an argillaceous mineral of type 2/1. That means that layer of illite is made of three layers:- an octahedral layer; Al (OH-) 5O: 7 atoms for 6 tops + Aluminimum in the center. The hydroxides and the Oxygen being divided between the different octahedral ones which compose the layer.
- and two layers tetrahedral which recovers each with dimensions the octahedral one; : 5 atoms for 4 tops + the Silicon in the medium. Oxygens being divided between the various tetrahedrons which compose the layer.
