Ikhchidides
The Ikhchidides are the members of a dynasty of autonomous governors directing the Egypt under the authority of the Abbassides (935 - 969).
History
Ikhchîd is the title which the princes of the Ferghana carried, one of them grandfather of Muhammad Ben Tughj had been put at the service of the Abbasid Caliph Al-Driven `tasim.Nearly one century later, Muhammad Ben Tughj ordering with the service of the caliph Ar-Râdî is charged to defend Egypt against the offensives of the Fatimides. It becomes autonomous and invades the Syria as well as part of the Arab Péninsule.
In 944, the caliph Al-Muttaqî is taken refuge with Ar-Raqqa threatened by the chief of the mercenaries Turkish Tuzun. Muhammad Ben Tughj makes him a humble allegiance. It offers sumptuous gifts to him. He proposes to him to take refuge in Egypt and to be thus put at the shelter. This offer, as a similar offer of the Hamdanides, had especially like objective to seize the power on the caliphate and to annex Syria. By refusing these two offers of supervision, Al-Muttaqî threw itself in the hands of Tuzun which swears its best intentions with regard to the caliph. Nevertheless, Tuzun deposits the caliph and makes him burst the eyes. The very same day, Tuzun installs Al-Mustakfi cousin of Al-Muttaqî to succeed to him.
In 946, when Muhammad Ben Tughj dies, its sons are too young to exert the power. The two wire of Muhammad Ben Tughj will follow one another without exerting of reality capacity and remain under the supervision of Kâfûr eunuque originating in Nubie. In 966, Kâfûr assumes only the capacity until in 968. Kâfûr thus exerted its authority on Egypt and Syria from 946 to 968.
The death of Kâfûr in 968, leaves the capacity to Abû Al-Fawâris Ahmad, a grandson of Muhammad Ben Tughj which will be unable to resist the invasion of Egypt by Fatimides sounding thus at the same time the end of Ikhchidides and the control of the Abbasids on Egypt.
