Ikedaya business
LIkedaya Jiken (池田屋事件), known in French under the name of business Ikedaya' , is a historical incident armed between the Ishin Shishi, a force antishogunale coming from Chosu, and the Shinsengumi, a unit armed with the Bakufu. The incident took place the June 5th 1864 with the ryokan Ikedaya with Kyōto with the Japan.
Ishin Shishi used Ikedaya as bases their operations. Their plan was to put fire at Kyōto and to capture Matsudaira Katamori the Daimyo of Aizu whose functions at the time included the protection of Kyōto. However, before the Ishin Shishi could put their plan at execution, Shinsengumi stopped a member of Ishin Shishi which, subjected to the interrogation, revealed their plan. The interrogation led by the vice-commander of Shinsengumi, Hijikata Toshizo, would have been particularly brutal. Indicator which the prisoner was not very inclined to answer the questions, Hijikata Toshizo would have suspended it by the ankles and would have inserted nails in its feet before there répendre of hot wax.
Informed urgency of the situation, the commander of Shinsengumi, Kondo Isami, left with a group man in order to stop Ishin Shishi before they can put their plan at execution. A second group of men carried out by Hijikata Toshizo joined them shortly after in Ikedaya.
However, certain incident reports to question it the methods of tortures used by Hijikata Toshizo. Indeed, in its memories, Nagakura Shinpachi describes the events differently and the popular novel of Shiba Ryotaro, Moeyoken is unaware of completely the participation of Hijikata in the business.
On the whole, eight members of Ishin Shishi were killed and twenty-three were stopped. Only one member of Shinsengumi was killed on the blow, but two died later, following their wounds. The captains Nagakura Shinpachi and Todo Heisuke accepted not-fatal wounds. A persistent rumor wants that Sôji Okita, because of its Tuberculose spit of blood under the effort and weakened.
The incident showed the force of Shinsengumi which been able to enjoy a certain notoriety thereafter. Moreover, This battle probably delayed the end of the one year Bakufu or two.
The ryokan Ikedaya was destroyed during the battle. Today, only a commemorative plaque underlines the events since a living room of Pachinko rises from now on at this place.
