Ikastola school

The ikastola (plural: ikastolak ) is a school of associative statute of the Basque Country by immersion in Basque.

History

The first school on the French side was founded in 1969 with Arcangues by a mother of three children, Argitxu Noblia. The first pupil was Arandia.

Objectives

Organization

It is mainly managed by the parents of pupils who assert his vocation of public service.

Festivals

In each historical territory, it is organized an important festival each year. The goals are to collect funds for the investments of the federations of ikastolas, to make known the ikastolas at the time of a cultural event extremely. Tens of thousands of people meet thus at the time of each one of these festivals:
  • Kilometroak, in Guipúzcoa
  • Ibilaldia, in Vizcaya
  • Nafarroa Oinez, in Navarre * Araba Euskaraz in Álava
  • Herri Urrats, with the Northern Pays Basque, is celebrated each year with the Lac of Saint Pée.
