Ihara Saikaku

Ihara Saikaku (井原西鶴), born in 1642 is a Poète and popular author of fiction Japanese.

It is born in 1642 in a rich person family from middle-class man from Osaka. He is regarded as the large Master of the Ukiyo-Zôshi (浮世草子). He tests himself initially with the Haikai (俳諧) before devoting himself to Ukiyo-Zôshi as from 40 years. From 1682 to 1693, it produces a score of works which come to be classified in 4 groups:

  • kôshoku mono (好色物) " Love charnel": it is in this topic that he most convincing and the most are known, it describes any forms of passions. Some works: kôshoku gonin onna (好色五人女) " 5 amoureuses": 5 news of which 4 report dramas caused by a passion without end. kôshoku ichidai onna (好色一代女) " Life of a friend of the volupté": account of the slow forfeiture of a former concubine of Daimyô (大名). nanshoku ookagami (男色大鏡) " The large mirror of the love mâle": account homosexual, paedophiles at the will samurai 侍 and the actors of kabuki (歌舞伎).

  • bukemono (武家物) " Stories of guerriers": manners of warriors. A work: bukegiri monogatari (武家義理物語) " Duty of the guerriers"
  • chônin mono (町人物) " Stories of bourgeois" (townsmen). Some works: nihon eitai will ura (日本永代浦) " The perpetual store of Japon" , seken mune sanyô (世間胸算用) " Accounts and décomptes"
  • Collections of tales. Some works: honchou nijû fukô (本朝二十不孝) " 20 paragons of impiété subsidiary of our pays" , shôkoku banashi (小国話) " Tales of the provinces"

Ihara Saikaku dies in 1693.
