Igue

In France, Igue is a regional term of the Lot and Causses of the Quercy (synonymous with Aven for the geographers and the geologist S) which indicates a kind of sand pipe, very broad, not caused either:

  • By a ic cavity Karst going up up to the level of the ground;

  • By a collapse of the ground above a karstic cavity.

The igues can conduirent or not with more or less important underground cavities. They should not be confused with the Gouffre S which have dimensions much more important and which can them be also formed starting from collapses of Doline S.

Formerly the igues were used of mass graves to the not very scrupulous stockbreeders, wild garbage dumps and even of breakage of old vehicles… Today, these processes are rigorously prohibited and liable to proceedings legal S, in particular within the framework of the Laws of safeguarding of the resources Drinking water.
