Masselot is the name of a family whose origin is attested as of the Moyen-âge in Flanders and in the Hainaut, at the Court of Mons. This family included/understood people of all fields. This family goes down inter alia William the Conqueror, however this is not attested for the Flemish branch.

The origin of this name probably comes from Macelote which was with the Middle Ages a kind of Massue.

Masselot are distributed today on all the France, but also with the Canada (Co.-Hyacinthe) and with the the United States (Vermont) where the name became Lashway after the change of the nickname Lajoie allotted to Masselot of Canada originating in Lorraine (Masselot-Lajoie). One also finds of Masselot in Belgium (Mons), in Italy, Ireland and Germany (Rhineland-of-North and the Saar).
