Biography
Revealed by its performances in the tests of Endurance (let us quote in particular its second place with the Targa Florio in 1968, and the same year, its fourth place with the 24 hours of Mans), Ignazio Giunti is recruited in 1970 by the Scuderia Ferrari, which integrates it into its program " sport" (what enables him to gain at the beginning of year the 12 hours of Sebring) but also with its program Formule 1, where it divides in a more or less equitable way the second car with Clay Regazzoni. In spite of a beautiful fourth place as of its first Grand Prix (in Belgium), Giunti suffers from the remote comparison with Regazzoni and disputes finally only four races. For the season 1971, although taken back in the F1 program (but for how much races?), it is especially on the Sport program that Giunti defers its hopes. But the January 10th, at the time of the : 1000 km of Buenos Aires , handle of the championship of the world of the sport scars, Giunti are killed after having run up against the broken down Matra 650 that the French pilot Jean-Pierre Beltoise pushed along the track.
