Ignacio Ramonet

Ignacio Ramonet , born on May 5th, 1943 with Redondela (Galicia, Spain), is a Journaliste, director of French monthly magazine diplomatic Le Monde and founder of ATTAC.

Biography

He works in France since 1972. Former student of Roland Barthes, he is graduate doctor in Sémiologie of the École of the high studies in social sciences of Paris. He is also, since 1991, director of the diplomatic monthly magazine Le Monde .

He is also doctor Honoris causa of the Université Saint-Jacques-to-Compostelle and the author of several books of geopolitics and criticism of the media.

Its leading article of the diplomatic Monde of December 1997 was at the origin of the creation of association ATTAC. It was among the promoters of the Worldwide social forum of Porto Alegre from which it proposed the slogan: “Another world is possible”. He is the founder of the international ONG Media Watch Global (International observatory of the media) and of his French version, the French Observatoire of the media. He is member of the committee of sponsorship of the French Coordination for the Decade of the culture of peace and non-violence.

Relations with Fidel Castro

A controversy, fed in particular by Reporters without borders, exists as for its proximity with Fidel Castro, allegations which he contradicted (April 2002). In May 2004, Ignacio Ramonet gives its support for Fidel Castro on line on television whereas this last protests against the classification that Forbes has just published: that of fortunes of the Heads of State, where Fidel Castro appears in 7th position. It published in September 2006: Fidel Castro: Biografía has Dos Voces . This book is presented like a succession of talks between Ignacio Ramonet and Fidel Castro.
