If Phan Gift
If Phan Don (meaning 4.000 islands ) is a district of the Province of Champasak, in the south of the Laos.
The Mekong crosses the province and, just above the Kampuchean border , is stopped by the Chutes of Khone, consisted of several rapids which prevent any navigation. During the French occupation, a railroad to narrow gauge railway was built to circumvent this obstacle.
Below the falls, Mekong has a small population of dolphins of Irrawady.
