If
IF ( Structural SIMilarity ) is a measurement of similarity between two digital images.
IF were developed to measure the visual quality of a compressed image, compared to the original image. Its goal is to mitigate the defects of PSNR, measurement traditional of the distortion of the compressed images but which does not take into account the characteristics of the human visual system.
The idea of IF is to measure the similarity of structure between the two images, rather than a difference pixel with pixel, the human eye being more sensitive to the changes in the structure of the image.
