Ievgueni Kafelnikov
Ievgueni Aleksandrovitch Kafelnikov (in Russian: ЕвгенийАлександровичКафельников) is a former professional player of Russian Tennis , born the February 18th 1974 with Sotchi. Ievgueni Kafelnikov was world number 1 in 1999.
It is first Russian to gain a tournament of the Large Slam in 1996 with Roland-Garros (it beats on this occasion Pete Sampras in semi-final and Michael Stich finally). Small anecdote, it succeeds in gaining on the two tables, simple indeed against Stich, but also the double, with its accomplice of always Daniel Vacek, the pair Guy Forget - Jakob Hlasek: 6-2, 6-3. It finally gains the Open of Australia in 1999 by beating Swedish Thomas Enqvist.
He is first Russian with becoming world number one on circuit ATP. But also first Russian to gain the gold medal of the Olympic Games in tennis at the time of the Plays of Sydney in 2000. It gained 26 titles into simple (including 5 times the Coupe of the Kremlin at his place in Moscow) and 27 in double.
After announced its retirement in 2002, for case where Russia would gain the money salad bowl (what was made against France finally), it takes its semi-official retirement at the end of 2003 and intends itself for a new career in the golf, it also takes part in important tournaments of poker throughout the world.
