Ieremia Movilă

Ieremia Movilă was a prince of Moldavie of 1595 with 1600 and of 1600 with 1606.

Born towards 1555, he was the son of the Boyard Ioan Movilă of Hudesti and of the princess Maria, girl of Pierre IV Rareş, prince de Moldavie.

It begins its career like Mare Vornic de Moldavie of 1583 with 1591. In 1593, it becomes prone of the king of Poland which it support to take, on August 27th, 1595, the throne of Moldavie to the prince Ştefan Răzvan, then supported by Sigismond Ier Bathory of Transylvania and combined Mihai Viteazul of Valachie. Ieremia Movilă must accept the Polish Suzeraineté in 1597 and that of Turkish in 1599.

However, in May 1600, it is driven out of Moldavie by Mihai Viteazul which takes the title of Prince. As of next September, Ieremia Movilă, supported by a Polish army, finds its throne. It takes the title of Dei princeps gratias and perpetuus young stags Moldovia . He dies on June 30th, 1606 and is buried in the church of the monastery of Sucevita which he had supported like his brother the Métropolite of Moldavie Gheorghe III Movilă.

In 1587, it had married in Poland Elzbieta Csomortany de Losoncz, a noble Hungarian woman born towards 1571 and died in a Turkish prison in Constantinople after August 3rd, 1616. Their four daughters married all in the Polish nobility:

  • Chiajna (1588-1619) married in 1603 prince Michel Wiśniowiecki.
  • Maria (? - 1638) did Stefan Potocki marry successively two noble, (? - 1631) and Nicolas Firlej (? - 1636).
  • Ecatarina (? - 1618) married in 1618 prince Samuel Korecki.
  • Anna (? - 1666) married 4 noble.
