Ier lambert of Leuwen

Lambert Ier says the Barbu , born towards 950, died with Florennes the September 12th 1015, was count de Louvain of 988 with 1015 and of Brussels of 994 with 1015. It was wire of Régnier III, count de Hainaut.

It was still adolescent when in 958, it took refuge at the court of France with its family when his/her father was exiled in Bohemia by the archbishop Brunon of Cologne.
In 973, with his brother Régnier, it attacked the counts Renaud and Garnier, to which it Hainaut had been entrusted, killed them in Péronne and started to occupy Hainaut, but the emperor Othon II the repoussa.
In 976, they tried another forwarding which ended in a defeat close to Mons the April 19th 976. But the emperor finally had to make concessions and gave to Régnier the county of Mons and Lambert the county of Leuwen. These two counties came from the old county of their père.
He married Gerberge, girl of the Carolingien Charles, duke of Low-Lotharingie and accepted in dowry the county of Brussels (area between the Senne and the Dyle).
He also acquired the titles of solicitor of the abbeys of Nivelles and Gembloux. All these acquisitions were at the base of the power of its descendants, which became later dukes of the Brabant.

It is possible that it asserted the duchy of Low-Lotharingie with died of his brother-in-law Othon, but nothing makes it possible to certify it, and the emperor entrusted the duchy to the house of Verdun.

He supported the count Baudouin IV in 1005 when he seized Valencians and was opposed to the emperor Henri II, but was probably overcome because he had to entrust his son in otage.
to him In 1012, the duke Godefroy Ier of Low-Lotharingie was sent by the emperor to force it with obedience. Godefroy besieged Leuwen, but without success. It was scrambled with the bishop of Liege, and overcame it. In 1015, Godefroy attacked it again and devastated its county. Joined by its nephew Régnier V of Mons, Lambert delivered the combat to Godefroy with Florennes, but it was killed during the battle.
