Idriss Déby Itno

Idriss Déby Itno (born in 1952 with Berdoba close to Fada), is member of the ethnos group Zaghawa, near of the ethnos group Toubou. President of the Chad since February 1st 1990. Re-elected the May 3rd 2006 for a third mandate with 64,67  % of the votes cast.

Family

The son of Idriss Déby Itno, Brahim Déby, which was intended for the succession of his/her father to the capacity, is assassinated the July 2nd 2007 in France, with Courbevoie.

Political career

He is with the head of the Chad since February 1st 1990, date on which he drove out capacity, with the support of the France, his/her former comrade in arms Hissène Habré after one period of armed struggle starting from the Sudan. He is the founder of the Patriotic Mouvement of the Hello, armed movement transformed into Political party which dominates the Chadian political life. He was elected president for a first mandate in 1996, then for a second mandate in 2001. December 21st, 1999, thirteen movements politico-soldiers and political parties are linked with an aim of reversing the mode which is centralized gradually on the “president”. In 2000, one estimated at 25  000 dead the assessment of the mode.

The Chadian deputies adopted, on May 26th, 2004, a constitutional modification which raises the limitation of the presidential mandates, before fixed at two. Mid-February 2006: the rebels are about to reverse the mode, but the French forces present on the spot allow the precipitated return of Idriss Déby, which was in visit in Guinea Equatoriale for a top of CEMAC (Economic community and Monetarist of Africa Centrale). He is re-elected for a third mandate in May 2006, one month after the missed attack conducted on Djaména, on April 13rd, by the United front for Change (FUC) of the captain Mahamat Nour, one of the rebel movements in fight against the capacity.
