Idle is a term generally used in data processing coming from the English language and which can have several close significances, according to the context in which it is used.
Definition
idle (English) , inaction, (Of a person) unoccupied, idle. To run idle, (of a machine) to go to vacuum. To iddle (over) , to idle.
Data processing
In the jargon of the computer programs, indicates the cycles unexploited processors.
IRC

Time IDLE is time spent to miss, one generally finds it on IRC when one uses the order WHOIS on a pseudo.It is in constant update, if the person speaks on IRC, its time will be given to 0 second, if this person does not speak during 2 min 27 S, its IDLE will be then of 2 min 27 s.
This function is useful when one wishes to know if the person is absent (Order AWAY on IRC) or not.
Plays
On IRC, a play even developed, the objective being to have the most important IDLE (see Idle RPG).
Prohibition
On certain waiters IRC (like QuakeNet) MOTD prohibits the abusive idle. Indeed, it is interdict to connect there any type of club-footed, with an aim of obtaining club-footed a Q.
