Idared is the name of a variety of Pomme obtained in 1935 by L. Werner of the experimental station of Moscow in the Idaho with the the United States. Exit of a crossing between Jonathan and Wagener, it was marketed starting from 1942.
Its fine waxy skin recovers a white, half-crunching, juicy, soft, acidulated and slightly sweetened flesh.
It is mature towards mid-October and is preserved until at the end of April.
Of gustatory good quality, Idared is appreciated as well out of apples with knife as out of cooking apple.
Variety Diploïde, it is pollinated by Akane, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Granny Smith, James Grieve, Jonathan, Mac Intosh, Melrose, Reine of the Rennets, Spartan, Winter Banana.
The fruit requires a good exposure to the sun for a maximum coloring. It is often large gauge in the first years of setting to fruits or it is also sometimes heterogeneous.
The Semis of Pépin of “Idared” are considered to inherit the precocity of setting with fruit of this variety.
