The letters C ( , ), Q ( kú , ) and W ( tvöfalt vaff , ˌvafː ) are used only for the words of foreign origin and the proper names. Letter Z ( seta , ) before 1974 was used, when it was abolished; it was only one etymological detail. However, the newspaper Island the most important board, the Morgunblaðið, uses Z sometimes (but seldom), and a college, the Verzlunarskóli Íslands , uses it in its name.
