Ibn Kathir

“Imâd AD-DIN abû Al-Fidâ” 'Ismâ `it Ben `Umar Ben Kathîr or Ibn Kathîr is a Juriste and Arab Traditionaliste Musulman. It was born in 1301 with Bosra in the south from the Syria. Ibn Kathîr died in February 1373 in Damas, it is buried there in the cemetery of the soufis.

Biography

He studied near Ibn Taymiya with Damas of the school hanbalite for the period Mamelouk E in Syria. At the end of its studies in 1341, its first function official is to take part at a board of inquiry charged to solve certain problems of heresies. Thereafter it occupies of the more or less official functions. In June/July 1366 he becomes professor in the large mosque of Damas.

Ibn Kathîr is the author of a comment of the Coran ( Tafsir ). Ibn Kathir puts the verses of Coran in relation to the Hadith S. the comment of Coran by Ibn Kathîr is famous in the Muslim world. Apart from the Muslim world, it is one of the most widespread explanations of Coran.

Ibn Kathîr is famous for its capacity to memorize the texts, it by heart knew all Coran and a great number of hadiths. It is known like judges ( Cadi ), as historian. Although having studied with hanbalites, Ibn Kathîb claims Chaféisme. Two of its works are pilot, one of them having for title the Categories of the disciples of the Imam Ach-Chafî .

Its work having the most success is its great history of Islam Bidâya which includes/understands an important chronicle of the town of Damas.

At the end of its life, Ibn Kathîr became blind. It attribute this blindness with its practice to work late the evening in its attempt to rather reorganize the collection of hadiths of Ahmad ibn Hanbal ( Musnad ) by arranging the hadiths by topic than by chain of guarantors ( Isnad ).
