Ibn Al-Thahabi

Abu Mohammed Abdellah Ibn Mohammed Al-Azdi (Arab: ابومحمدعبداللهبنمحمدالأزدي) (birth date unknown, died in 1033) also called Ibn Al-Thahabi was an Arab doctor famous to have written the first alphabetical encyclopedia of medicine.

Biography

Thahabi was born in the town of As Sohar in the current sultanate from Oman. After having lived with Al Basra, he emigrates in Perse or he studied medicine under Al-Biruni and Avicenne. He then emigrated with Jerusalem before going to live with Valence in the country of Al-Andalus.

Work

Thahabi is especially known for its encyclopedia of medicine, Kitab Al-Ma' has (Book of water). This encyclopedia drawn up a list alphabetically of the various diseases, and the means of treating them. In this book, it also gives many information on the operation of the human organs.
