Ibiza

Ibiza (adaptation in Castilian of the name in Catalan language Eivissa ) is a Spanish island of the Archipel of the Balearic Islands, in Mediterranean.

Geography

Eivissa is located at the south of the principal island of Majorque. It is located at a hundred kilometers at the east of the course of Nao and coasts of Valence, in the Iberian peninsula. It is also relatively close to the African coasts . The archipelago of the Pityuses includes/understands the island of Ibiza and that of Formentera. With Majorque and Minorque, it forms the province of the Balearic Islands. Its surface is of 572  km ², maximum altitude corresponds to the Talaia de Sant Josep which culminates with 475  Mr. His population counts 80  000 inhabitants of which 30  000 which lives its homonymous capital.

History

In 654 av. J.C, the Phéniciens found a port in this island of the archipelago of the Balearic Islands, which they named Ibossim , for the needs for the lead and marble, wine trade. This name will become Ebusus for the Romains.
