Ibanda

Ibanda is a commune of the town of Bukavu, in Democratic republic of Congo. She corresponds to the center town. She is limited to north by the Lac Kivu and to the east by the Rwanda. Among the influential personalities of this commune it is advisable to quote Mrs. Marie CHIMONGE, the first woman to take up the duty of burgomaster after independence in 1960. Mrs. Marie CHIMONGE finished her studies in Belgium. Its altruistic activities will push it to initiate an ONG FESODEBU (Women Interdependent for the Development of Bushi) aiming at fighting against the analphabetisation of the village woman. Currently Mrs. Marie CHIMONGE chairs another association CENADEC founded with the assistance of professor Wiktor Prandota, Polish of origin but African of choice.
