Ian Scheckter

Ian Scheckter (born the August 22nd 1947 with East London, South Africa) is an automobile old driver South-African. Author at the national level of a pretty career which carried out it until the Formule 1 where it disputed 18 GP without managing to garner of point, it remained in the shade of his younger brother Jody Scheckter, world champion in 1979.

Biography

Ian Scheckter carries out its beginnings in Formule 1 at the time of the GP of South Africa 1974. On the starting grid, it joined his Jody brother (3 years its junior) who after tumultuous beginnings, affirms itself like one of the great hopes of the discipline. But whereas Jody is titular in the powerful stable Tyrrell Racing, Ian must be satisfied with a wheel on a Lotus private of the TEAM Gunston. It at the end of the year makes a second appearance on Hesketh at the time of the GP of Austria, but without managing to qualify itself.

In 1975, Ian takes part again in its national Grand Prix, this time on Tyrrell private of Lexington Racing. It gives up following an accident while his/her brother (on Tyrrell official) takes down the victory. A few weeks later, thanks to a budgetary contribution, it disputes two races on behalf of the stable Williams the first grinding.

After a single appearance in F1 in 1976 (again on Tyrrell of Lexington Racing in South Africa), he manages in 1977 to obtain a full-time wheel at March thanks to the financial support of the South-African branch of a powerful sponsor tobacco. But its season proves to be disappointing and Ian takes down modest a 10th place with Zandvoort as a better result. It turns over then to South Africa, where it will continue to shine during several years in national tests.
