Ian Paice
Ian Anderson Paice was born the June 29th 1948 with Nottingham, it is a Batteur of Rock. It is especially known for its participation in the group of Rock' N roll Deep Purple, of which it is the only beater.
Self-educated beater , it initially played on batteries Ludwig, then on of Pearl MX and MLX, just like of the Cymbale S Paiste (of which it has a model Signature ). He also played in the groups The Maze and of MI5 in company of Rod Evans.
For the idle period of Deep Purple, it records, at the sides of Doug Yule, the album of the Velvet Underground Squeeze . He plays with Ashton and Jon Lord (clavierist of Deep Purple) between 1976 and 1977, with Whitesnake between 1979 and 1982, and with Gary Moore between 1982 and 1984. He collaborated in 1999 in the album Run Devil Run of Paul McCartney.
Called “Paicey”, this left-handed beater influences always good number of beaters, in particular that of Metallica, Lars Ulrich, which wanted to become beater after having seen Deep Purple in concert in 1973.
Paice gives an effective support for the group with its play of superb and powerful battery. It has an long experience and its play mixes admirably Jazz and rock' N roll.
Its long solo of battery on the version of The Mule on the album Made in Japan of Deep Purple shows that he is a follower of such solos in concert. Its play of clear case is remarkable, it is one of the rare beaters to play the one handed roll " bearing with only one main". There exists a model of clear case " signature" at PEARL with a small characteristic: the ties are equipped with a disc known as " tune safe" , (system installed at the request of Ian Paice itself) which makes it possible to block the screw, to avoid a désaccordage during a concert for example.
There remains a very modest and simple beater all the same.
