Iakov Zak

Iakov Izraïlevitch Zak (in; ), born the November 20th (November 7th of the Calendar Julien) 1913 with Odessa (Ukraine) and dead the June 28th 1976 with Moscow, is a Soviet Pianiste.

He studies with the academy of his birthplace with Starkhova then with the conservatory of Moscow with Heinrich Neuhaus. He begins his career in 1935 but reaches notoriety by gaining the First price of the international Concours of piano Frederic-Chopin in 1937. As from 1935, he teaches with the academy of Moscow where he becomes professor in 1947. Nikolaï Petrov, Valeri Afanassiev and Iouri Egorov counted among its pupils. In 1966, Iakov Zak receives the title of Artiste of the people of the USSR.
