I Muvrini

The group I Muvrini ( the small moufflons in Corsican Language) is a group of World Music created by Alain and Jean François Bernardini at the end of the Seventies.

They started by singing songs in a Corsican traditional style (guitar and voice, polyphonies) then the group opened gradually towards the musics of the world and the variety. They in particular enriched their orchestration with sometimes by the instruments not very common such as the Vielle to wheel or the Cornemuse and sang with other artists such as Veronique Sanson in 1994, Sting in 1998 and MC Solaar in 2002.

In Alma intervene of the singers Zoulou S: Faith Kekana and Bongani Masuku. The year 2005 and Alma saw appearing a " new muvrini" : new album, new decoration, new musicians and a style without complex! The two brothers with the so beautiful and so complementary voices knew, during the last years, to be surrounded musicians of great quality: Cesar Anot (which became the arranger on Alma), Manu Katché, Patrick Manouguian, Loic Taillebrest (present on all the rounds since more than ten years), Achim Meyer and an exceptional polyphonic chorus.

The formation of the group required the setting in mortgage of the house of village of the Bernardini brothers in the Corsican mountain. They counted thus completely on their success to refund this loan, success which was total, the group indeed knowing a fame now international.

Today, Muvrini built a modern ultra studio with the center even of their small village of Tagliu-isulaccia, where many Corsican artists come to record: U populu corsu laid carried out there their DVD and the very new " group; Novi" or " N9vi" there records its first album.

These ten last years, I Muvrini sang several times by mingling their voices with those with other artists:

Criticisms

I Muvrini are at the origin of an renewed interest for the Corsican culture and its music in particular. This is all the more spectacular as the group was formed at one time when the regional languages not-were recognized even rejected. In the Eighties, if they sang traditional Polyphonie S (of which paghjelle ), they added to their repertory of the songs protestors. They were victims of several local by-laws besides prohibiting to them to occur in certain Corsican villages. Today, and after an opening to the music of the world, I Muvrini rather sings Variété in Corsican language. Certain groups, like I Mantini, reproach them for being entered a system which they criticized formerly and to sell today of the music wrongly labelled traditional . Two songs of I Mantini are the example: I Muvrini is rich and Mendiants of the tradition .
