ISight

The iSight is a Webcam manufactured by Apple. It has a cylindrical design, a perforated aluminum hull, and is connected to the Ordinateur by a connector industry Firewire (guaranteeing a comfortable video flow, without request of the Processeur). The iSight provided with the MacBook and the MacBook Pro have when with them a connector industry interns in USB.

Its optics has a opening of 2,8 and it gives indications of enough good quality. One of its characteristics is to easily be able to fix itself at the screen of the computer, which allows a catch of sight the height of the eyes, the majority of the webcams placing itself on the desk and thus offer only one sight of lower part.

This product is appreciated for its simple and sober esthetics, and its compactness. iSight includes/understands an integrated microphone removing the ambient noise and which, according to Apple, offers a clear sound like crystal.

It is in particular conceived for the Visioconférence via the Logiciel IChat AV (which supports to it video starting from MacOS 10.3). It can also be used to film short sequences using iMovie HD or to take the instantaneous ones using Photo Booth.

The iSight is integrated in the last computers iMac G5, and in all new using Mac of the Intel processor like the MacBook, the MacBook Pro and the iMac Core Duo (except the Mac Pro and Mac Mini).

The Firewire model

It can also be used under Linux thanks to the library libdc1394 and with the Coriander graphical interface. A description of the procedure to follow is available in French. The support its is on the other hand always at the experimental stage.

Model USB

Model USB, that included on the MacBook and the MacBook Pro, can be installed under Linux with an experimental pilot.
