Under the aspect of a flat screen TFT, it reveals inside the power of the processor PowerPC of IBM, the G5 (processor nativement 64 bits).

Various versions

The first version (August 2004)

This first version gives place to an important publicity campaign and meets a success with the height of the hopes of Apple. It is declined in 3 models:

The second version (May 2005)

This second version makes only improvements to the level of the performances and internal functions, as well as a significant decrease of the prices, and is always declined in 3 models:

The third version (October 2005)

Similar seemingly to the first iMac G5, this new model of it is not less completely different inside. Its main new thing is the camera iSight integrated placed at the top of the screen, like its infra-red remote control making it possible to make a truth " of it; media center". It has an exclusive software: PhotoBooth which makes it possible to easily take photographs quickly and using the camera iSight. The interior fitting was optimized to make it even finer and light quieter and, even if the obstruction total with the foot remains the same one. At the technical level, the two models 17" and 20" raise a screen of much better quality and profit from last technologies by integrating memory DDR2 and a graphics card NCV-Express train.

N the other hand of this greater compactness, the iMac G5 has only one site of extension RAM (the RAM of origin being welded) and the interior is much less accessible by the user.

It should be noted that Apple removed the model of line entry to keep only two models in the range: a 17" and a 20". This suppression increases the price of access to this range (1 379 € against 1.199 € before):

the iMac Core Duo

The January 10th 2006, the iMac with an Intel Core Duo microprocessor is launched, announced as being 2 times more powerful than the iMac G5. The iMac G5 will disappear from the catalog Apple two months later.
