The province of Teruel is one of the provinces of Aragon. Of a surface of 14.804 km ², it counts approximately 141.091 inhabitants divided out of 236 communes of which the half has less than 200 inhabitants. The population density is of 9,6 hab. /km ²

Of mountainous geography, its climate is one of hardest in Europe for its dryness. One observes thermal differences in a few 20 degrees in a few hours lasting certain times of the year. With the chief town, the recorded temperatures are of 39ºC (on July 3rd, 1994) and -19ºC (on December 26th, 2001).

Its economy is based mainly on the cereal culture and tourism. To note, importance of the sector of ham with label of origin.

On the industrial sphere, the sectors are important mining and electric. There exist kaolin and clay and coal large farms also. The area has two thermo plants with coal, that of Andorra (1050 MW) and that of Escucha.

It has two ski stations: Javalambre and Valdelinares, both in the mountains of Javalambre and Gúdar in the south of the province.

Like reaction to depopulation and the weak economic development, there exists a movement citizen called “Teruel Existe” which defends the revitalization of the province and defers the fault on the State for the lack of investments in the infrastructures of communications.
