I, Robot (film)
I, Robot is an American film of science fiction, freely inspired of the novels of Isaac Asimov, carried out by Alex Proyas and left in 2004.
Synopsis
Although it takes again the title of it, the intrigue of film is rather far away from the scenario published by Harlan Ellison and Isaac Asimov in 1978.
Chicago, in 2035, the robots are fully integrated in the daily life. The police officer Del Spooner does not believe in the suicide of Alfred Lanning, who is one of the founding fathers of robotics. He thus makes a point of discovering the murderer, and its first suspicions turn to a robot named Sony. However, all the robots are subjected, during their construction, with three laws:
-
First law: A robot cannot carry reached to an human being nor, remaining passive, leave this human being exposed to the danger.
- Second law: A robot must obey the orders given by the human beings, except so of such kinds are in contradiction with the first law.
- Third law: A robot must protect its existence insofar as this protection is not in contradiction with the first or the second law.
The problem is that by definition the execution of the laws defined by Isaac Asimov is preceded by their interpretation, and that this one can give unexpected results.

Matrix
-
At beginning (DVD chap. 9/00:20: 15), the jump of Sony resemble curiously that of Néo in the first opus (there is an idle besides).
- At the time of the interrogation of Sony (DVD chap. 12/00:27: 15), the guards of the police force imitate the guards of the building perfectly where Morpheus is retained prisoner in the first shutter of the trilogy (attitude, port of the weapon and costume).
- the enemies all of human are of NS-5 in infinite quantity and thus all identical like are the incalculable number of agents Smith in Reloaded or Revolution .
- One of the final scenes where NS-5 are called in reinforcement by VIKI (DVD chap. 35/01:31: 44), we shows robots having displacements close to those of the spiders and the sound of their articulations makes just like think of frictions of wings of insects the vision of the machines in the third opus (when Neo meets Deus ex machina).
- When the inspector Spooner injects the nanites with VIKI (DVD chap. 36/01:35: 33), one can think of Neo injecting a virus by his own code with Smith .
-
the mother of Spooner ( Gigi ) with its kind grandmother Afro-American and her tarts with sweet potato, naturally makes think of Oracle and its cookies. One will have been able besides to notice with the passage which it is about the same lining voice in French for the two women.
- the motor bike of Spooner (especially with Calvin behind) can echo that of Trinity in Reloaded .
- Spooner is completely human but has an robot arm which, just like Neo halfway propels it between the man and the machine.
Star Wars
- the trucks of USR, conveyer of robots, are rather similar to the vessels of transport of the droïdes of combat of episode I.
- the guards of USR make think of the graded imperial soldiers (uniform green).
2001: the odyssey of space
- VIKI , computer designed to protect the human ones, becomes fatal, like HALL 9000 . The two computers are decontaminated in comparable scenes.
BLAME!
- the design of the NS-5 and their way of moving make think of the safeguards .
Traditional
- Towards end (DVD chap. 30 - 01:18: 02), Susann Calvin taking his shower makes think of Psychose where the victim (here the “attacker” would be the NS-5) is under the shower (and moreover, the “telephone” sounds).
- No problem of symbolic system: “the bad” NS-5, when they are connected to USR are in red.
- One of the plans located towards the end is inspired by Azumi , film of Ryuhei Kitamura.
