I, Robot is a cycle of science fictions made up of nine Nouvelle S written by Isaac Asimov, and published the first time by Gnome Close in 1950.

History

The news is initially appeared in the magazines Super Science Stories and Astounding Science Fiction in the Années 1940. Although this news can be read separately, they share the human topic of the interaction of the S, the Robot S and the Moralité; combined, they offer a more important vision of the fictional history of the robotics of Asimov.

The title of the collection comes from a new of Eando Binder. Asimov had originally titrated its collection the Spirit and steel ( Mind and Iron ), and had raised an objection when the editor had changed the title it.

Description

Several of the news put in scene the doctor Susan Calvin, the robopsychologist chief of U.S. Robots and Mechanical Men, Inc. (USRMM), a major manufacturer of Robot S. Beyond their publication in this collection, Asimov wrote a Chronologie presenting the stories like the memories of Calvin, during an interview about work of his life, where it was seriously concerned with the being wrong behavior of the robots, and of the use of the Robopsychologie to cure it.

The book also contains the short news in which appear for the first famous time the Three laws of robotics of Asimov. Other characters appear in this news, such as Powell and Donovan, a team charged of the tests life size which seeks the defects in the prototype models of the USRMM.

Summary

  • With the back of the cover of I, Robot (edition with cover paper) figure:

"For you, a robot is right a robot. But you did not work with them. You do not know them. They are of a species cleaner and better than ours.

When the Earth is governed by machine-Masters… When the robots are more human than humanity.
vision of the future by Asimov, unforgettable and which makes cold finally in the back - available in this first edition papier."

This is largely inaccurate. The first paragraph is a quotation of one of the recurring characters of the book, Doctor Susan Calvin, but the remainder is incongruous with the topics that Asimov presents in its news. At the time of the publication of the collection, the robots were depicted in the science fiction like servile machines or as of démoniaques creations which revolted the made-to-order of the Monstre of Frankenstein. Asimov said itself that he had written the history of the robots, in order to replace these two visions by something of more rational.

  • rational Approach -

comment relating to the robots, coming from the page Double constraint. In its news Vicious circle , Isaac Asimov puts in scene a robot, subjected to the Three laws of the robotics, to which an order endangering is given its existence. Following specific programming, this robot is particularly thorough to be protected, 2nd and 3rd laws of robotics balance and it takes refuge in the madness.
