Hywel ab Ieuaf
Hywel ab Ieuaf (? - † 985), known as " Mauvais" was a king of Gwynedd.
He was the son of Ieuaf ab Idwal which had reigned on Gwynedd with his/her brother Iago ab Idwal until in 969. Ieuaf was imprisoned by his/her brother, but Hywal could beat Iago in 979, imprison it, and go up on the throne. But it would seem that he did not release his father (there remained captive until his death in 988), from where its nickname of " Mauvais".
One knows very few things of his reign. In 983, it was combined with English and attacked Buellt and Brycheiniog, but the coalition was stopped Net by Einion ab Owain of Deheubarth. He died in 985, betrayed by the Saxons, and it was his/her brother, Cadwallon ab Ieuaf which succeeded to him.
