The family of the Hystricidés is families of Rongeur S which gathers the Porc-épic S of the old world.
The surface of distribution of these pig-épics covers the hot areas of Africa and Asia. Only the porcupine with peak is observed in Europe, Sicily and in the south of the Italy.
Classification
the family of hystricidés is located in the sub-order of the hystricognathes which includes/understands among other families the Éréthizontidé S or pig-épics of the new world.She includes/understands the kinds:
- Atherurus F. Vat, 1829
- Hystrix Linnaeus, 1758
- Trichys Günther, 1877
The kind Thecurus is not recognized any more and the species are reclassified in Hystrix.
