  • Senegal: the sovereign Toucouleur converted with the Islam as of the middle of the 11th century. In 1056, the king Lebbi carries help with his army to the Moslem Yahya Ibn Omar threatened by the nomads Goddala.
  • the Berbères Zenâtas of Sidjilmâsa are raised against the Almoravides. The reconquest of Sidjilmâsâ is long and difficult. Ibn Yacine is killed in 1059.

  • August 31st: Beginning of the reign of Michel VI Stratiotikos, Byzantine Emperor, general designated by the eunuques ones with died of Théodora (fine in 1057).

  • October 5th: Beginning of the reign of Henri IV, Germanic Roman Emperor (fine in 1106), then six years old. Regency of Agnes of Poitiers, mother of Henri IV and the pope Victor II, then regency of the archbishops Annon of Cologne and Aldabert of Bremen on the Holy roman Empire. The large feudal ones take again their independence.

  • popular Revolt of the Patarins of Milan against opulence and manners slackened of the clergy (fine in 1057).

  • Establishment of one évêché autonomous in Iceland.

    • the first bishop Icelandic, Ísleifr Gizurarson, after its formation in a convent of Westphalia, settles with Skálhot, in the south-west of the island. He is opposed to the Church Godhar ( godharkirkja ) and turns to the continent for the training of the monks and the organization of the convents which are founded in the second part of the 11th century (Thykkvabær, Helgafell, Hítardarl, Flatey).
