Hyperpère

The hyperpère is a Byzantine gold currency created by the monetary reform of Alexis Ier Comnène in 1092 to replace the Nomisma. The hyperpère, or nomisma hyperpère, is a coin of 4,48 grams, that is to say 21 Carat S. It is intended especially for the foreign trade with the empire, the currencies of electrum and Billon from now on being privileged within this one.
