Hypéride
Hypéride , in Greek old Ὑπερείδης / Hypereídês , born with Athens in 389, died in 322 with Égine) was one of the ten Orateurs attics and an Athenian statesman.
Biography
Wire of Glaucippe, an Athenian of good family, Hypéride follows the teaching of Plato and Isocrate, then specializes in the Rhétorique. In 360, during the social war, it starts by attacking in justice Autoclès, an Athenian general having a command in Thrace, for treason. Starting from 346, it lines up at the sides of Démosthène, against Philippe II of Macedonia. He is member of the Council in 338 av. J. - C., consequently of what he cannot take share with the Bataille of Chéronée. In 324, the business of Harpale at a rate of its friendship for Démosthène: Hypéride appears among the ten public indicters against this last. After the exile of the large speaker, it takes the head of the party anti-Macedonian.
After the death of Alexandre Large the in 323, he is the promoter of the lamiaque Guerre against Antipater. This same year, the people indicate it to pronounce the funeral praise of the strategist Léosthène and his soldiers, fallen during the war. After the decisive defeat of Crannon, in 322, he is tortured (the language is torn off to him) then carried out by the party pro-Macedonian, with his partisans.
Works
In the Antiquity, 77 speeches were allotted to Hypéride, the majority of doubtful authenticity. We have of them only some fragments, of which most important come from rollers of papyrus of a tomb thebaine, in Egypt, discovered in 1849, and of another discovery in 1856. Among these speeches one finds:

a plea for a courtesan, Phryné, of which it was one of the lovers and who was continued for impiété. He pled besides for her.
- the Against Philippidès , lawsuit in illegality: Philippidès proposed a decree allotting an honorary crown to proèdres, presidents of a meeting of the assembly where one voted honors with king de Macédoine.
- the Against Athénogène including one great part is preserved. It wrote it as a logographe for a suit at law. The customer of Hypéride was interested in a slave of Athènogène but this one sells to him with a complicated contract which costs him finally very expensive. He shows Athénogène to have swindled him.
- the Against Démosthène . Hypéride attacks Démosthène in 323 av. J. - C. within the framework of the Affaire of Harpale where Démosthène is accused of corruption. It indeed forms part of the indicters indicated by the people. Demosthene is then condemned to a door amends.
- the funeral oration of died of the lamiaque War
- a For Lycophron and a For Euxénippe , two speeches where it defends of marked of Lycurgue.
Hypéride was famous for the address of its speeches, full with elegance and ease, and often with irony, like for the solidity of their composition. One reproached him nevertheless for missing width.
