The held note of Adolphe Sax
The creation of this part took place in Paris on February 3rd 1844, for a floor of musicians and journalists. One of the chroniclers of the time reports that Adolphe Sax ensuring the part of saxophone baritone (which was yet only one prototype, certain keys held only with strings!!) stopped on a sound, decreased it, then swelled it to the extreme. Sax did not remember any more of the Doigté the following note.
