Hydrothermal metamorphism

Hydrothermal metamorphism: mineralogical transformation of a rock under the effect of a modification of the temperature and pressure but without modification of the chemical composition of the rock, and requiring a fluid (generally water).

Generally, a hydrothermal metamorphism proceeds with low pressure (geologically speaking: there is an ocean above!), at low temperature (a few hundreds of degrees) and in the presence of great quantity of water (from where the need for an ocean).

The metamorphized rocks most known are the Métagabbro S and the Serpentine that one finds at the oceanic level of the Dorsales.

This process is done in a solid state.
