Hydrography of Santa Catarina

The rivers which parcourrent the territory of the State of Santa Catarina belong to two distinct systems hydrographic. The border of division of water between these two systems is marked by the mountains of the Serra Geral and of the Serra C Mar.

Littoral slope

The Atlantic Littoral is divided into several catchment areas of small size, isolated between them. One can quote, among principal the River, of north in the south, the Fleuve S Itapocu, Itajaí-Açu, Tijucas and Araranguá.

Interior slope

In the interior of the State, two basins meet to form the Río of Plata:
  • the basin of the Rio Paraná, whose principal affluent with Santa Catarina is the Rio Iguaçu;
  • the basin of the Rio Uruguai, whose principal affluents are the Rivière S Pelotas, Canoas, Chapecó and Peixe.
