Hydrazoic acid
The hydrazoic acid , HN3, is a weak monoacide (km No = 4,72), acid combined ion N3- azide.
__TOC
Description
It is a Hydracide. One also indicates it by the names of acid hydrazoic acid and azide of hydrogen . The name of hydrogen azide indicates in theory the pure substance (gas HN3), whereas that of hydrazoic acid or hydrazoic indicates the aqueous solution rather.
It is oxidizing very powerful, as the diagram of Frost of nitrogen shows it opposite. It is unstable, very explosive.
It is synthesized by action of the nitrous acid on the Hydrazine
(HNO2 + N2H4 ---> N2H5NO2 ---> HN3 + 2:00 2O)
or by action of the nitrogen trichloride or nitrosyle chloride on hydrazine, or by reaction of a Azide with an acid.
Toxicity
Workers exposed to 0,5 ppm of hydrazoic acid presented Céphalée S and a nasal Congestion. Others Symptoms, such as a weakness and a irritation ocular and nasal, could be observed in consequence of an exposure to 3 ppm during less than one hour. The frequency of the Pouls was variable and the Blood-pressure low or normal. Similar symptoms were reported among workers employed to the production of the Azoture of lead. They presented a clear hypotension, which was accentuated during the day's work and which returned to the normal after they left their station.The exposure of rodents to hydrazoic acid fumes causes a pulmonary Inflammation acute. The Vapeur S of this acid are approximately eight times less toxic than those of the Cyanure of hydrogen, a concentration of 1.024 ppm being mortal for the mouse after 60 minutes (against 135 ppm for hydrogen cyanide).
