Hydraulic projection

For flows characterized by the transition from torrential to river, the threads of current strongly diverge and the flow quickly becomes varied with regard to the profile of the free face. If the raising of the watermark is sufficiently important, one observes one or more or less unstable rollers with surge and important turbulence which involves a dissipation of energy not négligeabe.

Caution: the hydraulic projection indicates only this transition. It is accompanied by a dissipation of energy: the kinetic energy is converted into potential energy (speed decreases and the height increases) and is generally characterized by strong a Turbulence.
