Hydrangea

The Hortensias are shrubs of the kind Hydrangea pertaining to the family of the Hydrangeacée S. They were thus named in the honor of Hortense queen of Holland, girl of Joséphine de Beauharnais.

One very usually finds them in Jardin S everywhere in the world, but they are originating in China. They generally flower of the summer at the beginning of the winter. Certain species present some small fertile flowers to the medium, surrounded by a ball of larger sterile flowers. Except for the species with white flowers, the color of the flowers depends on the acidity of the ground in which the plant is installed: blue in acid and pink ground with red in neutral or calcareous ground.

The sheets can reach a 15 cm length. They are generally cogged. The hydrangeas resist rather well the winters in moderated climates, and prefer a site not too sunny. One usually cuts them at least of half, after the large frosts.
