Hydramnios

The hydramnios is an excess of Amniotic liquid during the Grossesse.

At the human being, the hydramnios is defined by the measurement of the amniotic index. An index higher than 25cm establishes the diagnosis.

Causes

The maternal Diabète would explain approximately 20% of the cases observed. In 20% to 40% of the cases an excess of amniotic liquid would be connected to a fetal Malformation. Normally, the fetus swallows a certain quantity of amniotic liquid which is metabolized in its organization during all the pregnancy. In the absence of normal reflexes, swallowing is impossible and the liquid accumulates.

Treatments

A risk of premature birth is possible because the rupture of the membranes is supported by the distension. The Amniocentèse makes it possible to decrease this risk and to relieve the mother.
