Distinctive signs

The name of the organization comes from the Hydre de Lerne and their creed is " Cut a head, two repoussent" , because after each defeat, it returns more powerful (This creature was killed by Hercules).

Origins

The creator of the HYDRA is the baron Wolfgang Von Strucker, a Nazi which was overcome by Nick Fury. Adolf Hitler wanted to carry out it in example, but its right-hand man of then, Red Crâne saved it and put at the shelter in a base of the East from where it created the organization.

It cut the bridges with Red Crâne and flees the country, becoming first Hydra Suprême. With the head of a small army and a team of scientists (the futures A.I.M), it is established on an island of the Pacific. It was with two fingers to acquire a nuclear arsenal when a US/Japon commando destroyed the base.

Towards the end of the war, Von Strucker rebuilds a base with the assistance of best S.S. in escape and saw its work like the heritage of the Third Reich. It establishes its HQ in the USA and developed the HYDRA everywhere in the world. It took the secret identity of Large Impérator and delegated its power at a committee.

Arnold Brown was named Hydra Suprême and the HYDRA developed submarines, weapons and jet S, but the capacity remained secretly between the hands of the baron.

To counter the HYDRA, the SHIELD was created. Its first director, assassinated by the men in green, was replaced by Nick Fury, then with the CIA.

Arnold Brown was killed at the time of the attack of the SHIELD against the HQ of NYC.

Factions

A division was created within the HYDRA, whose the Secret Empire and a.I.M. emerged.

Nick Fury and SHIELD thwarted good number of plans of the organization and a new base in the Pacific was even destroyed.

The HYDRA, strongly weakened, lost its ideology Nazi and split up in various small factions, all claiming origin:

the HYDRA of NYC was directed by Mrs Masque.
the European HYDRA by the Count Otto Vermis.
the HYDRA of Las Vegas by Red Cranium.

Also, Caid and Silvermane made HYDRA a derivative of the Maffia. There still, Fury intervened…
